Somdet; high royal/monastic honorific title
A high Thai honorific title placed before the names of top royalty (including the king, queen, crown prince/princess) and senior Buddhist monks (including the Supreme Patriarch). It can also refer to a person who holds such a title.

A famous and highly revered type of Thai Buddhist amulet, properly called 'Phra Somdet' (พระสมเด็จพระสมเด็จprá-sŏm-dètPhra Somdej amulet). These amulets, originally created by Somdet Phra Phutthachan (To Phrommarangsi), typically feature a stylized image of the Buddha.
